Structural Geology Short Course

Structural Geology Short Course at the Saskatchewan Geological Open House

   Time and Date: 8SRK Consulting presents structural geology short course at 2013 Saskatchewan Geological Open House.:00 am - Monday, December 2, 2013 (1 day)

   Venue: Salon Batoche, Delta Bessborough Hotel, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

   Presenter: Dr Ivo Vos (SRK Consulting)

Description: Structural geology impacts all aspects of mineral deposit exploration, development, and production. It is of particular importance in understanding the geometry and extent of mineralization, the distribution of high grade material, as well as the geotechnical and hydrogeological behaviour of the rock mass. For this reason a fundamental appreciation of structural geology is critical to add value to mineral projects.

This one-day workshop is intended for all geoscientists interested in building or refreshing their skills and confidence to apply structural analysis to mineral projects. Using examples from grass-roots exploration through to the production environment, the workshop will incorporate key themes and exercises to develop a practical approach to dealing with mineral deposits affected by geological structures. The workshop includes a combination of presentations, case studies, and exercises covering the following areas:

  • General concepts in structural geology and their application to mineral systems;
  • Structural drill core and field mapping techniques; and,
  • Understanding fault, fold, and vein systems in mineral systems.

The course will be accompanied by a printed set of the presentations.

Format: Oral presentations and practical exercises

Requirements: Pencils, pens, ruler, and protractor (not provided)

Attendance: Max: 45

Course attendance fee: $325. (Fees will not be refunded after November 8th, 2013.)
