Michael Di Giovinazzo

Michael is a Member of the AusIMM and holds a GCertEng in Mining Geomechanics and BSc in Applied Geology. His rock mechanics engineering experience over 13 years’ has been across underground and surface mining operations, operational geotechnical team leading, and feasibility studies. He relocated to the Nordic region in 2013 after moving from Australia where he held a Principal Geotechnical Engineer role for Newcrest Mining at the Telfer Gold Operation incorporating deep SLC, two open cuts, cave-pit interaction, and open stoping. Prior to this he had senior level roles covering geotechnical planning and guidance of numerous brownfields underground and open cut projects. This experience has involved specialisation in operations support, geotechnical risk management, rock mass characterisation, underground mine design (Sub-level Cave; Room & Pillar; Open Stoping), slope design and optimisation, underground and open pit interaction, static and dynamic ground support design, ground monitoring design and installation, ground monitoring data interpretation, seismic hazard management, and numerical modelling in 2D and elastic 3D.
