Somnath has widely worked in mining and the metals sector on business strategy, transformation, diversification, reengineering, corporate planning, performance improvement, operational excellence, cost optimization, bid process advisory, coal and hard rock ore body modelling, mine planning, feasibility and prefeasibility studies, due-diligence, mine operation and production, drilling and blasting, waste dump management, quality control, capital budgeting, cash flow, operating cost estimation, etc.
He started his career with Vedanta Group in managing the operations of a large opencast lead and zinc mine in Rajasthan. Subsequently, he joined DMT Group and gained experience in technical consulting. Prior to joining SRK, Somnath worked with KPMG in management consulting projects. He is proficient in the use of a range of software packages including Surpac, Minex, Whittle, MineSched, Datamine, etc. This has allowed him to undertake several projects for coal, iron, limestone, gypsum, dolomite, copper, gold etc. and has taken him on assignments in more than 20 countries.
